Computer Network Research Group ITB. Internet network is the integration of tens of millions of computers (hosts) are connected through a network of hundreds of thousands around the world. Computers at home or in your office can connect with any computer on the Internet because it has a IP Address as a means of identification. Allocation of IP Address for each computer that is connected to a network must be done properly so that routing can work well. In addition, IP Address allocation should be efficient because of the limited numbers. How?
Although for the users of the Internet generally we only need to know the hostname of the target machine, such as: server.indo.net.id, rad.net.id, ui.ac.id, itb.ac.id. For the computer to work directly with the information would be relatively more difficult because there is no order that can be programmed easily. To overcome this, the computer identifies the address of each computer using a set of 32-bit numbers, known as IP addresses.
The existence of IP Address is a consequence of the application of the Internet Protocol to integrate the Internet computer network in the world. Whole host (computer) connected to the Internet and want to communicate using TCP / IP must have an IP Address as a host on the network identifier. Logically, the Internet is a large network consisting of various sub-integrated network. Therefore, an IP address must be unique for the whole world. There should be no one the same IP address used by two different hosts. Therefore, the use of IP Address in the world is coordinated by a central agency on the Internet is known by IANA - one of them is the Network Information Center (NIC) which became the main coordinator in the world for IP address allocation affairs is ........ ...............
